Lukáš Vondráček Piano Liszt Sonata in B minor
Chopin Polonaise no. 5, opus 44
Suk The Song of Love
Chopin Ballade no. 1 in G minor
At only 20, Lukáš Vondráček draws accolades the world over for his sensitive, intelligent pianism. Lukáš has become a Festival favourite following visits during his teens. He is now a rising star on the international stage, regularly working with Ashkenazy and other leading conductors.
His favourite composer? ‘For me it has to be Liszt. But it’s very important to show the world our wonderful Czech music. Some composers are very well known, such as Dvořák or Janáček, but others such as Smetana, Suk or Novak aren’t, so I like to include their music in my recitals – I really love performing it.’
Instinctively musical and technically faultless The Guardian Buxton Festival is as good as an arts festival gets The Independent Dates for 2007: 6 - 22 July
During July and August 2007 Lukas will be a soloist on the Australian Youth Orchestra's European tour, conducted by Lawrence Foster. Final details of the venues awaited.
We have just received translations of two reviews of Lukas's recital in Harenburg last October. They make interesting reading.
November 2007 will find Lukas in Sydney when he will join the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in two concerts at the famous Sydney Opera House. They are part of a special Rachmaninov Festival and Lukas will be playing the Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy.

Aidan Lang is now in his final year as Artistic Director of the Buxton Festival which is currently taking place in Buxton, Derbyshire. He is leaving to be the General Director of the NBR New Zealand Opera. The Buxton Festival Programme includes an article where he discusses with Glyn Foley, General Manager, some of the highs (and lows)during his seven years at the festival.
"What have been some of your favourite moments?"
"I'll take our own productions as read - although I was particularly pleased with both Merry Wives and Ascania in Alba last year - and concentrate on other events. It's often the unexpected treasures which leave a lasting memory :the amazing recitals of the young Lukas Vondracek, catching James Rutherford and Jonathan Lemalu before they became famous...................................."
February 10th 2006 Eric Snape tells readers of The Sentinel about
"Four days and nights of music, showcasing world-class performers, and introducing vibrant young newcomers. That's Piano Passions 06."
Martin Roscoe is the artistic director of the first ever Piano Passions to be held in the Forum Theatre, Hanley March 8th - 11th, with recitals, masterclass etc. etc.
Snape details all the events and goes on to say:
"...and the astounding Lukas Vondracek, who brings Piano Passions to its Gala Finale on the Saturday with music by Beethoven, Smetana, Rachmaninov and Balakirev. Lukas hypnotised the packed Victoria Hall audience on the first night of this season's Stoke-on-Trent Festival with his stunning version of Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto,"
